About the Author
Michael C. Meyer was Professor of History at the University of Arizona. A former general editor of the Hispanic American Historical Review, he authored or edited ten books on Mexico and Latin American history, including The Oxford History of Mexico (OUP, 2000).
William L. Sherman was Professor of History at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and the author of Forced Native Labor in Sixteenth-Century Colonial America (1979).
Susan M. Deeds is Professor Emeritus of History at Northern Arizona University. She is the author of Defiance and Deference in Colonial Mexico: Indians under Spanish Rule in Nueva Vizcaya (2003) and more than thirty articles on northern Mexican colonial ethnohistory.

Pretty good, for a textbook.

This is a great textbook and I thought it was well written. The subject matter can be exciting to read about at times and each chapter explores a given period methodically and without bias. My only criticism is that the sections on modern times are very compact and issues like the oil cartels and drug complex (carefully chosen labels) are barely discussed at all compared to the very long and detailed sections on the Porfiriato and revolution. If you're into the subject then this is the book for you.

This is a great book for learning Mexican history if you have no previous knowledge or have a class that requires this. I would recommend it to anyone even if you don't have a class just to get more knowledge.
