A Must Read For Couples!

I decided to purchase "Tantric Massage for Couples" because Tantric Massage is a topic that has long-held my interest. I am interested in what makes and breaks relationships, and relationship counseling. Improving intimacy with a romantic partner can only enhance the relationship, and I can not think of a single activity that would help with intimacy issues better than massage; add a tantric element and you simply can't go wrong. The author presents tantric massage in an interesting and easy to understand manner, that kept me wanting to know more. I liked that there was a Tantric Touch topic separate from Tantric Sex. I also like that the author covered basic massage, so that people are able to experience intimacy separate from a sexual experience. Following the techniques and information in this book will no-doubt increase intimacy in your relationship on all levels.

Take making love to the next level.

This book helped my marriage so much. Things weren't going so well and I knew I had to try something different to get back to how we were, get that spark back, spice things up again. Her birthday was coming and I asked a friend who's a couples therapist for her opinion and she said why not try some tantric sex stuff. Got this book and gave it to her, she was a bit surprised at first but we decided to try it anyways and I can say now that our relation is better than ever. They way you both can connect physically and spiritually with these techniques makes making love a whole different thing, more beautiful and delicate, and you'll both feel how you become one. I received this item for free in exchange for my honest review. My experience is not biased in any way.

It's an okay book! I think the author did a great job explaining the importance of communication. Understanding couple massages can help in dull relationships. There are other books that are written better than this...but it gives you an understanding on what could happen in your relationship if you give it a try. Massages are relaxing to begin with and when they become sensual it is much better...

Not for "actual" records........

I was really excited about getting this book and once I opened it, I quickly discovered that this was NOT what I was hoping it would be! If you're looking for "records" such as "Best-selling LIPS track" or "First Xbox 360 Movie Karaoke Game" then you're in LUCK! And yes,...those ARE, in fact, actual records included in this book. You can find records of best scores and such, but they are included at the very end and are hardly even recognized. All in all, I should've sent the book back, but maybe my 9 year old nephew will like it?!

lazy, blatant marketing

What can I say, picked this up at a garage sale. Upon opening the book it was very clear why it was there. It is a very lazy effort, with mostly records such as "Best Selling __________" or "First ___________".

Some of the lists provided are things that are subjective and are strangely places in a record book. Most of these lists also seem to lean toward the promotion of current games. If you are looking for something meaningful to an actual gamer stay away, if you are looking for an advertizement in book form then this is right up your alley.

This book is the ultimate record book for all things gaming. With the many records, the awesome scoreboards by Twin Galaxies, and the overall awesome creation, this book is the one to get.

Though it may be 2012's Edition, it still holds records that may not have been shown in 2013's.

I recommend this book to gamers who want a challenge.

Who shows real EVIDENCE?

In doing so we assume things are factual without any EVIDENCE. For that reason we should not have any complaints when we find that the things we buy do not help us to become consistently profitable traders. If we do not ensure that we have EVIDENCE before we make a decision to spend money, then it is OUR own fault if the products or services that we buy do not deliver what we were hoping for.

Is it therefore any wonder that 90% of all retail traders lose money?

We are all being sold stuff that sounds and looks great, but doesn't actually deliver results in the real world of Forex trading.Sadly the Forex industry is awash with people and companies that are all after our money, and they will say virtually anything to get it.How often have you seen a historical Forex chart showing a so called ‘’successful trade’’ using some or other indicator, software program or trading strategy? My guess is that you have seen plenty. Is that EVIDENCE that a system actually works long term?

In my book, the Set & Forget profit system I explain how I use a very simple mathematical approach to trading Forex that has all the EVIDENCE you could ever ask for.

Book title is misleading

Big disapointment, the book title gives the impression that you are going to be taught a "very difficult to lose" trading system, not the case, the author spends half the book telling you how useless indicators are then introduces his own "special" indicator, tells you about how great his bollinger band system is but will not tell you what the settings are unless you join his trading room, which is constantly plugged in the book. Yes there is some good insight into drawing support and resistance lines but have to give the 2 star for the bait and switch marketing tactics employed. I guess it was worth $2.99 but this is really a well written marketing promotion for his trading rooms and indicators

I will rate the book, not the method, why?

Because, to use the method you have to pay him hundreds of dollars to use his own indicators.
Maybe the method its the best, I dont know, and I wont spend hundreds of dollars to check if it works.
Also, you have to attend to his online seminars to understand them.
He also mention like 30 times to visit his website to attend his web seminars, free, to understand how to draw S&R lines, also for the Bollinger Band Setting, and let me quote: "I reveal the settings for the blue and orange bollinger bands to everyone who joins my trading rooms. So if you want to find out exactly how to use this system, for FREE, then register for one of my FREE Live Forex trading rooms."
Then he say that his currency indicator is the best (Apollo CSI) (maybe it is, I dont know), you can use it free for 8 days if you register for one of his FREE Live Forex trading rooms and if you register then it will only cost $227 for members!
A bargain!
Then you have to use his Terminus PCI indicator, only $77! You can get both for $277 if you are a member, or only $347 if you are not a member, thats all what this book is all about, selling his indicators.
Im not judging, Im just telling you what this is book is all about.

Not really set and forget

I had a lot of issues with this book. For one thing, I didn't see anything close to a "Set and Forget" strategy. You have to watch the charts like any other system. Also he leaves out several key points of information. The one that really annoyed me was his strategy using Bollinger bands because he doesn't give you the settings in the book, so why even bring up this strategy if you don't give the settings. Also, he says basically the main premise of the system is drawing proper s and r lines, but he doesn't tell you how to draw them! Because of this, I feel like the entire book was just some summary information to get you to go to his site and join his room and perhaps buy his indicators. He does kind of slam indicators then turns around offers to sell his own indicators. Overall I thought the book was pretty worthless.

Deliberately controversial and well-argued

Peter Newmark's A Textbook of Translation is arguably one of the few classic texts in the occasionally emerging field of translation studies and stands out among the other, often more abstract and cultural theory-inspired works of `translatology' because of its determination to be immediately practical and applicable to actual, hands-on (usually literary) translation work. As such it is an excellent resource for both students of translation as well as practitioners of the trade.

As (relatively) often as Newmark is cited by other writers, it should be understood going into the book that his views are by no means the norm and the author himself is very aware of this. Simplifying the position, Newmark supports loyalty to the original as opposed to the `transcreation' of a new text in the target language. He takes something of a combative, even snooty, stance while defending his argument that the translator's role is to remain essentially invisible and should be there only to relay the message, as exactly and to-the-word as possible, of the original author. For example, the dictum that you must account for every single word in the source text appears constantly throughout the book, which obviously makes a lot of sense in theory. It may be worth noting, though, that most of Newmark's many examples are from French, German and Italian (the book can probably get pretty frustrating at times if you don't claim at least a basic familiarity with these languages), and if you don't have the `luxury' of working with languages as closely related and historically and culturally interactive as these, you may find it difficult to apply his strict warnings against translating with the purpose of conveying the meaning (the gist, or the `spirit') of the original to your own work. Jaded professionals may find themselves at turns amused and wistful when faced with such a forceful argument in favor of the `ideal translation.'

While most readers are going to have a tough time agreeing with all the points in this book, it is still an effective reminder to stay tight with your work and to read your source texts very, very closely. Opinions aside, just about everyone involved or interested in the field will find something useful in the many examples and words of advice that Newmark presents. A Textbook of Translation may be something of a rare find by now, but it's definitely worth a look for both its practical tips and its role in the formation of translation studies.

Not so applicable to Asian language translation

This book is enlightening, giving a good introduction to the theories of translation. The author is quite opinionated about what is right, favoring strict faith to the original text over the transparency of the translation, which may work well in many circumstances with translation from low-context Western European languages into English.

The advice he gives the reader, however, is much less applicable to the translation into English of languages such as Chinese or Japanese, which are much more high-context than English, and in which vagueness, redundancy, non-linear organization, "understood" information, and run-on sentences are the order of the day. The very nature of Chinese writing, in most circumstances, forces the translator to distance himself from fidelity to the original text, instead trying as accurately as possible to convey the source language writer's meaning in a way that sounds natural and understandable to the reader.

The author's lack of consideration of non-European languages, his over-opinionated demeanor, his sometimes-questionable prose, and the fact that the book is two decades out of date (given the Internet as a valuable resource for professional terminology, proper names and much more) are why I am giving this otherwise engaging and informative book three stars instead of five. It is still a recommended read for anyone who is serious about translation as a career.

A disappointing mess..

I have always been a fan of the For Dummies series but this book has changed that.
The book is a total mess. It's unclear and unorganized, and it clearly does't seem to target a specific audience.
If you're a beginner programmer, do not buy this book. This book assumes that you have some programming knowledge and knowledge with Cocoa Touch frameworks, which is a strange thing in a For Dummies series.
When I started reading this book, I thought that I was reading it backwards. Chapter 4 goes into complex and advance programming with references of the unexplained topics on later chapters. The rest of the book made me feel the same.
The book's chapters are structured as follows:
Chapter 1: Starts with building an app, Locatapp, that uses Cocoa Touch's MapKit
Chapters 2-3: Talks about Xcode environment in way too much details (5 pages on Xcode's code completion feature)
Chapter 4: Jumps into deep coding of the same app introduced in chapter 1 with no explanation at all. The chapter mentions classes, kits, framework, etc.. without explaining them at all. I hardly followed his instructions, which are stated with no explanation whatsoever.
Chapters 5-8: Talk about Swift's syntax and the language itself. It does so in a confusing manner by writing the code in a playground and following the steps provided. Those chapters seem separated from the book, as they do not even mention the app that "should" be built while reading the book.
Chapters 9-18: Continues building the app that was started on chapter 4 and introduces other aspects of Swift in the same time.

Overall, the book jumped from topic to topic, the writer explains straightforward topics in too much details and leaves the complex topics unexplained, the way instructions are given makes building the app a nightmare, and the pictures seemed misplaced in the paperback version.
I do not recommend this book. Both the writer and the editor have to fix those huge mistakes.

var SwiftforDummies = ["poorly written", "jumps around", "doesn't explain"]

I'm a computer tech. People ask me often how they or their kids can learn to program their own apps for ipad or iphone. I was hoping that this would be a book that would be simple enough that a non-programmer could see what goes into programming in swift. Even if it doesn't teach programming, someone should come back from this with an idea of type of work that goes into programming an app. It's a for dummies book. It should be simple and lead by the hand. Unfortunately this book does not do that.

The first chapter is all about how to setup a project--down to info on how to change text styles. This chapter for the most part is what I thought the book would be. Overly detailed info on setting up so that even the "dummies" can get it.

Then chapter two jumps into showing code with a variable and a loop without telling you what either are. Then it really does nothing with variables after showing you how to declare a variable. It doesn't show you why you would want store variables or make loops but instead has page after page about how the auto-correct feature works and how the timeline feature works. There are literally 5 lines of code in the chapter with setting variables and a simple loop. Later the book tells us that Chapter 2 was our chapter on how to write and test code--you've just had code thrown at you and have no idea how to write code.

After Chapter 3 on setting up your programming environment in xcode, the second half of chapter 4 is all about getting location data into your app. What? Chapter 4 has all sorts of code that no beginner will even understand. This is a for dummies course. This should be simple small steps and teaching you how things work all along the way. This just jumps and jostles and half teaches! There does seem to be some simpler stuff later in the book, but who would stick around through this slog?

Chapter 5 finally teaches you some of the things you can do with data, but instead of teaching you why you would want to know how to manipulate data, it tells you not to worry because your Cocoa touch apps don't need chapter 5 info. Yes, it says that right at the beginning of the chapter! Why would you have a chapter where you tell people at the beginning of the chapter that they don't need the info in the chapter! It boggles the mind!

It's like there's a huge emphasis on getting things installed and set up, but not much emphasis on programming and horribly little explanation when programming is shown. I only scanned the book after Chapter 5--I'm just not going to waste my time. Some of the later chapters seem to have simpler programming that the earlier ones which doesn't make sense at all. But by the time you get there you've lost all the "dummies".

I just don't get this book. It feels like someone took a rough draft, divided it into chapters, threw the chapters up in the air, and then picked the chapter order by whatever order the chapters were picked up... It doesn't feel like it's for "dummies" and smart programmers definitely wouldn't use it as a beginning Swift guide.

THE WORST DUMMIES BOOK I HAVE EVER ATTEMPTED TO UNDERSTAND

I should have read the reviews before buying but I have had such good luck with "dummies" books that I just bought it. AS OTHERS HAVE STATED, THIS BOOK IS A TOTAL MESS. I have been programming for 40 years and consider myself capable of learning almost anything technical. I am not big on object oriented programming but can get by. I read the book on two cross country flights and think i understand even less about Swift than before i started. I just got hoMe and noticed I no longer have the book. I left it on the plane. Great how the subconscious mind works. Now I don;t have to worry about trying to figure out this author's brain dump. There is no logical development to the ideas presented. It is as if the book was generated from an advanced class lecture in which there was some sense of confirmation that the audience understood what he was talking about. He goes into painful detail about programming details that are not necessary and only distract someone trying to figure out WTF he is talking about.
I AM SO GLAD I LEFT THE BOOK ON THE PLANE

About the Author
Distinguished author Dr. Barbara Doyle has been teaching introductory programming courses for more than 25 years. She received her Ph.D. from Florida Institute of Technology in 1991 and shortly after joined the faculty at Jacksonville University. She currently chairs the CS Department, where they prepare majors in Computing Science and Information Systems. Ms. Doyle teaches the CS1 and CS2 courses using the C# programming language. She has been very involved with ABET-CAC, the Computer Science accreditation board, chairing more than a dozen accreditation teams. In 2009 she was elected to a five-year ABET-CAC commissioner appointment and currently volunteers as a training support facilitator.

Bypass

I bought this expensive book to help my cousin learn programming by following the material. I decided to give it try based on the "from problem analysis to design" tag.The only good thing about this book is the test examples and sample projects it allows you to try.

However, There is more bad than good. But just to touch on one which is persistent throughout the book, chapter structures are very incoherent and not well explained. for example the Windows Form Application in chapter 9 is all over the place and does not have a logical step by step build on one concept onto the other. I will say bypass this if you are looking for a good book to help you understand concepts.

Allen J. Coombes is botanist at the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens and Arboretum in Hampshire, England, and the author of many books about plants and trees. Zsolt Debreczy, is research Director of the International Dendrological Research Institute in Boston.

Specialty Book with Wide Appeal

"The Book of Leaves" is appealing to many readers, perhaps even more than Alan Coombs, the author and Zsolt Debreczy, his editor, even imagined. The book features leaves from 600 trees, one to a page. Each page presents a full-sized photograph of the leaf, a smaller photograph in the case of compound leaves, a short description of the tree and leaf, a world-map showing the origin of the tree, a sketch of the tree with an estimate of its size, a chart with relevant facts on the tree and a short paragraph describing the distintion between the subject leaf and similar leaves. This is a lot of information on one page but the pages are well designed and never look crowded or busy. The book includes a glossary of botanic terms, and a chapter explaining how to identify a tree by its leaf. There is an index of trees by common name and another index by Latin name. The trees are grouped by their botanic family, and listed alphabetically. The book includes only trees of the 'temperate' zone, which is most of North America.

Photographers will appreciate the quality of the pictures. Perfect specimens were photographed in a studio and the veins, serrations and details of the leaves are readily visible. Naturalists will appreciate the difficulties of collecting 600 perfect leaf samples from many places and keeping the leaves fresh until they were photographed. The author graciously thanks all who contributed to this phase of the project.

Students and professionals in botany, forestry and horticultural will appreciate the concise presentation of facts and the wonderful photographs. The general reader will find that the book is fun. Who would have ever guessed that there are so many maple trees? So many oak trees? Who does not want to know the name of the tree in their backyard, in the park, on the street? And, the tree may have been imported from China! I can see children studying the pages, leaf in hand.

"The Book of Leaves" not include cultivars, and, for the most part, other identifying characteristics such as buds, bark and stems. All of photographs were taken when the leaves were green so Fall colors have to be imagined. These omissions do not limit the usefulness of this well-designed, attractive book.

A Unique, Wonderful and Complete Tree & Leaf Reference Book

I purchased this book after reading a great review of it in the Chicago Tribune. It is just as the review described -- a great reference book for the trees of the world, complete with copies of the leaves, typically pictured in their exact size. After perusing the book, I soon recognized, however, that it would be great if the authors could publish a sequel that would limit the coverage just to the trees of the United States and not the entire world. Clearly, this sequel would be of a much-reduced size, but I think the authors would soon find that there would be a great demand for such a book of more limited scope. Anyway, the authors clearly have made a great contribution. I am not an arborist or the like but simply wanted something to bring me more up to speed on what is growing in my tree-infested yard (and elsewhere).

Whether you're looking for eye candy or a study guide, The Book of Leaves will serve you well. Leaf type and anatomy, taxonomy and nomenclature are covered in brief sections at the front. Glossary, common name index and scientific name index are at the back. The remainder of this very heavy book is devoted to individual pages for selected dicotyledonous tree species from around the world. The designer(s) at Ivy Press in the UK should be commended for outstanding information design. Each page uses the minimum but sufficient space for text about the habit, distribution and leaf type. The rest of the page is devoted to a flat photograph of the leaf in question - life size - providing a better sense of texture than many field guides. Unlike a field guide, however, fruits, blossoms and bark are not shown, but brief descriptions are given. Artists, naturalists and teachers will appreciate this beautiful book.
