A good textbook. Really!
By Erik J Fearing
This was the text for a graduate level introductory Special Education course.
Generally, I find it absurd to call students with disabilities "Exceptional," but getting beyond that, this is one of the more useful texts on special needs which I've come across. (and I now have a masters in special education.)
If anyone but a professor ever buys such a book, this is a solid choice. I used to for reference in my SpEd program much more frequently than any of the books I actually bought for those classes.

Teaching
By teach-one
Reading the book "Exceptional Students" by R. L. Taylor, L. R. Smiley, and S. B. Richards really helped me understand Special needs children in a classroom setting. The book discussed two types of Exceptional Students; Special needs and Gifts and Talents. I enjoyed reading about special needs. Since I work in a special education classroom as an assistant, I wanted to find out more about including the special needs in a regular classroom with typical children. This is called Inclusion. The book gave information on Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). This program teaches students to use pictures to communicate; depending on how severe the child's brain injury is, eventually the child may speak using pictures. This will help the child with their language skills. Social skills program is important to special needs children. The program will assist students in how to apologize to their peers, develop role playing, practice feedback, and more. Special needs children's brains might develop slower than the average child's brain depending on the brain injury. There is a classification of individuals with intellectual disabilities; once the child is tested their IQ is based on four level; mild, moderate, severe and profound. This test is completed with a Special Education team. Thanks to this book, using PECS, Social skills program, and understanding the child's intellect will help the child fit in an inclusion classroom with typical children.

Good PRAXIS study guide
By Mom of 4 boys
Bought this for hubby to study for the EC Praxis exams. He loves it and considers it a valuable resource to keep handy. FYI, he passed the PRAXIS just by self-studying, without any classes or formal training in the field.
